What Is Solar Permit Design?
A permit plan set is the document package a jurisdiction reviews before it will let a solar system be installed. It has to show the site, the array, the electrical design and the equipment in the format that specific authority expects to see.
These sets are produced for residential and commercial projects across the US and Canada, drawn against local AHJ requirements so the reviewer gets what they are looking for the first time.
AHJ comments are treated as a normal step in the workflow, not an exception — comment-response revisions are handled as part of the permit process within the agreed scope. Where a project needs a PE stamp, stamp availability for your jurisdiction is confirmed at quote stage.
What's in a Permit Plan Set
Cover Sheet and Site Plan
Project cover sheet and site plan showing the property, structure and array location.
Roof Plan
Roof layout with module placement, setbacks and pathways as required by the jurisdiction.
Single-Line and Three-Line Diagrams
Electrical diagrams covering the array, inverters, disconnects and point of connection.
String Layout and Bill of Material
String configuration together with the material list for the system as designed.
Equipment Specs, Calculations and Data Sheets
Equipment specifications with supporting calculations and manufacturer data sheets.
Attachment Detail and Signage
Mounting and attachment details plus the labelling and signage sheets the AHJ requires.
Built for Installers Filing Across Many Jurisdictions
Solar Installers
Keep permit sets moving across jurisdictions without a permanent drafting desk.
EPC Companies
Standardise the permit package across a multi-state or multi-province pipeline.
Solar Contractors
Hand off the plan set so your crews stay on installs instead of paperwork.
Commercial Solar Companies
Get commercial sets drawn to the reviewer's format, with comment responses handled.
How It Works
Submit Project
Send the project address and jurisdiction so the required format can be identified.
Share Project Information
Provide the site details, equipment selections and any existing site photos.
Plan Set Production
The full permit set is drawn to the requirements of the reviewing authority.
Review and Revisions
You review the set, and revisions are made within the agreed scope.
AHJ Comment Response
If the authority returns comments, the set is revised as a standard step in the workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which markets are supported for permit design?
Primarily US and Canadian residential and commercial permit sets, built to satisfy local AHJ expectations.
What is in a permit package?
Typically a site plan, roof plan, single-line diagram, string layout and equipment specifications, plus any additional sheets the AHJ requires for that project.
Are PE stamps available?
Availability depends on state licensing coverage. Stamp availability for your jurisdiction is verified at quote stage rather than assumed.
What happens if the AHJ returns comments?
Comment-response revisions are treated as a standard part of the permit workflow within the agreed scope.
Can you work from a design we produced in SurgePV?
Yes. An approved layout and equipment selection from your own design tool is a normal starting point for a permit set.
